For instance, a yellowish undercoat brings forth the richness of the gold, whereas a reddish undercoat brings forth the warmth of the gold.

Gold leaf is so thin that the only practical method of determining its density is by its weight. The standard measure of weight used is grams per 1000 sheets. The range is from a bit over 11 gr/1000 to 29 gr/1000.
